Georgetown University
Georgetown University is located in Washington, DC. The Hoyas compete at the NCAA Division I level and field 23 varsity teams.
Most of Georgetown's teams participate in the Big East Conference, with the exception of the football team, which competes at the FCS Division I level in the Patriot League.
The university's nickname originates from the Greek and Latin chant "Hoya Saxa", meaning "What Rocks". This phrase gained popularity in the late nineteenth century and eventually evolved into their official nickname, the Hoyas. Despite the nickname, Georgetown’s official mascot is Jack the Bulldog.
