Georgetown University
Georgetown University is located in Washington, DC. The Hoyas compete at the Division I level of the NCAA and field 23 varsity teams. Most of the teams participate in the Big East Conference with the exception of their football team who competes in the FCS Patriot League Division I level. Georgetown University’s nickname derived from the Greek and Latin mixed chant “Hoya Saxa” which means “What Rocks,” the saying gained popularity in the late nineteenth century and eventually formed into their nickname the “Hoyas.” Although they are known as the Hoyas, Georgetown’s mascot is actually Jack the bulldog.
