Designed specifically for baseball performance, Shaw Sports Turf set out to engineer the ultimate baseball field.
The result was TruHop, the closest thing to natural grass. Its revolutionary design mirrors the real thing in terms of playability and performance, yet provides durability that natural grass just can’t rival. TruHop can be engineered with various pile heights and infill ratios to fit each performance area of the field.
TruHop is similar to a five-tool player in baseball. A five-tool player is one who can field, throw, run, hit for average, and hit for power. In synthetic turf, a five-tool system is one that has great aesthetics, is always available, provides performance and durability, allows reduced maintenance, and is safe.
AESTHETICS
Grass-like surface with a natural, true bounce for consistent playability.
AVAILABILITY
No closing fields or game cancellations due to inclement weather.
PERFORMANCE / DURABILITY
Up to four times more play than natural grass on a surface proven to deliver time after time.
MAINTENANCE
No water, pesticides, fertilizers, or mowing needed.
SAFETY
Non-abrasive, grass-like surface is player-friendly.
Shaw Sports Turf provides a surface that is always ready and allows the team to prepare and practice when needed without the threat of cancellation or delay.
A long season means significant wear and tear on a field. TruHop is a consistent, durable surface that plays the same way every time you take the field, and there is no downtime for field recovery.
The science and technology behind Shaw Sports Turf closely replicate the look and playability of a natural grass field. We work with each client to custom engineer a field with the desired performance characteristics.
TruHop’s revolutionary design mirrors the real thing in terms of playability and performance yet provides durability that natural grass just can’t rival. The system can be engineered with various pile heights and infill ratios to fit each performance area of the field, including the infield, outfield, warning track, base path, and foul lines.

PRODUCT TESTING
Shaw Sports Turf knows that baseball is a purist’s game. That’s why we’ve invested considerable resources in developing a system that plays and performs just like the best natural grass baseball fields.
Our R&D team has tested fields at all levels, from recreation fields to professional baseball playing fields. We’ve conducted extensive research on several properties that are important in systems designed to be more like natural grass.
ALL OF OUR SYSTEMS ARE DESIGNED AROUND CRITICAL PERFORMANCE TESTS
GMAX
gMax is a measurement of the impact attenuation properties of the synthetic turf playing system.
VERTICAL DEFORMATION
Vertical deformation measures the stability of a surface by evaluating how much it compresses upon impact.
FORCE REDUCTION
The amount of force absorbed by the surface, indicating its ability to reduce impact forces.
BALL ROLL
Ball roll measures how far the ball travels from a standard drop height.
VERTICAL BALL REBOUND
Vertical ball rebound determines how high the ball bounces after being dropped on the turf.
THE COEFFICIENT OF RESTITUTION
The amount of kinetic energy lost upon impact; a lower coefficient suggests more energy is absorbed by the surface.
THE ANGLE OF RESTITUTION
A ratio comparing the ball's outgoing angle after impact to its incoming angle.
ALL OF THESE FACTORS HAVE BEEN USED TO DEVELOP A SYSTEM EXCLUSIVELY FOR BASEBALL THAT MIMICS THE PLAY AND PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF A HIGH-QUALITY NATURAL GRASS FIELD.
