BALANCING SAFETY & PERFORMANCE
SHAW SPORTS TURF IS COMMITTED TO A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO PLAYER PERFORMANCE & SAFETY

THOROUGH TESTING
Our systems are designed to provide safety as well as performance benefits for athletes by achieving the right balance of firm, fast, and safe surfaces. Our turf products are engineered to meet the highest performance and safety standards. In our state-of-the-art sports science lab located in Dalton, Georgia, our turf is put through the rigors of athlete/surface and ball/surface tests that measure our products against the benchmark of perfectly manicured natural turf. This laboratory is one of the largest and most advanced research and development centers of its kind in the United States.
ALL OF OUR SYSTEMS ARE DESIGNED AROUND THE FOLLOWING CRITICAL PERFORMANCE TESTS
ROTATIONAL RESISTANCE
Measures the torque required to rotate a set of cleats through a 90-degree turn on the surface.
gMAX
Measures high-impact interaction between the athlete and the surface.
VERTICAL DEFORMATION
Measures the athlete’s foot stability on the surface; the firmer the surface, the faster the athlete can run and change directions.
VERTICAL BALL REBOUND
Measures the natural bounce of a ball, simulating its movement after being kicked into the air.
FORCE REDUCTION
Measures the amount of impact force transferred to the athlete compared to running on concrete.
BALL ROLL
Measures the distance and speed of a ball when passed from one player to another.
SHEAR VANE
Measures how stable the field is to resist shearing forces caused by player movement.
ENERGY REBOUND
Uses an artificial athlete to assess the peak loading used for vertical deformation and force reduction tests.
HIC - HEAD IMPACT CRITERIA
Measures the likelihood of head injury from an impact with the surface.
BALL ROLL
Measured by the distance a ball rolls on synthetic turf from a one-meter drop. Turf speed is directly related to ball roll distance.
