TAHOE VISTA, California - The North Tahoe Public Utility District (NTPUD) just made a major upgrade to “field #4” at North Tahoe Regional Park. The field, formerly used for soccer only, now features the industry’s leading-edge synthetic turf and can accommodate a number of new sports and activities.
“The installation of this new Legion turf system in our North Tahoe Regional Park significantly enhances the recreational offerings we can provide to our community,” said NTPUD Administrative Manager Loren R. Holt. “This new field improves our ability to provide a year-round playing surface for our area youth sports organizations, as well as providing a safe surface for recreational use,” said Holt.
The NTPUD installed a total of 106,000 square feet Legion Pro synthetic turf. Legion is a combination of high-performance monofilament fibers and a durable slit film fiber. The slit film fiber is a workhorse which will handle the workload, while the monofilament provides a more resilient surface that enhances performance characteristics. Legion Pro uses Bolt, a premium lightning bolt shaped monofilament fiber. Legion Pro also features optimized face weight for performance and infill flyout control.
In addition to a major transformation in synthetic turf technology, the field was also expanded in size by an additional 34,000 square feet. It is now a full-size NCAA/NAIA sanctioned field and can accommodate early season high school practice for baseball and softball, as well as outdoor recreation for area youth.
“We chose to work with Shaw Sports Turf because of their impeccable reputation throughout the sports industry and the incredible quality of their products. Working with Matt Cohen and the Shaw Sports Team has been a wonderful experience. Their attention to detail and deadlines ensured that our construction teams had everything they needed and could finish the project on time,” said Holt.
Installation of the synthetic turf systems at North Tahoe Regional Park were completed in August and a grand opening is scheduled for Friday, September 17, 2021. The project was funded through the NTPUD’s ongoing Capital Improvement Program, the Placer County Park Dedication Fee Program, and the State of California’s Proposition 68 Per Capita Grant Program. The Placer County Board of Supervisors awarded $825,000 in Park Dedication Fee funding support for the project earlier this year, which is being matched by the NTPUD. The State of California’s Proposition 68 Per Capita Grant Program provided an additional $177,952 in funding.
“I'm ecstatic Shaw Sports Turf could be involved with the North Tahoe Public Utility District. It was great to work with the district’s engineering and operations team to make the project happen. This will be something the North Tahoe community can be proud of for years to come,” said Shaw Sports Turf, Territory Manager, Matthew Cohen.
