Springfield College
Springfield College is a private, coeducational college located in Springfield, MA. Known as the birthplace of basketball, the sport was invented at Springfield College in 1891 by graduate student James Naismith. The college's philosophy of "humanics" "calls for the education of the whole person—in spirit, mind, and body—for leadership in service to others." It is symbolized by a triangle. Springfield College's athletic teams known as the "Pride", are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and most compete in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
