OMAHA, Nebraska - Omaha, Nebraska is not a typical stop on the convention circuit…..unless it’s for the annual Berkshire-Hathaway shareholders meeting.
This past weekend, some 40,000 people came to Omaha to see what Warren Buffett, the Oracle of Omaha, had to say. Over 40 companies owned by Berkshire-Hathaway exhibited at the event, where the theme was baseball.
Shaw Industries, the world’s largest carpet maker, was on hand for the event, and featured Shaw Sports Turf in the booth, which was floored with the TruHop baseball synthetic turf system. TruHop was developed, in part, by John Smoltz, former pitcher for the Atlanta Braves.
Smoltz was on hand in Omaha on behalf of Shaw Sports Turf and signed baseballs for shareholders. All proceeds from the signing are being donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, which is focused on finding cures and saving children with childhood diseases.
