YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Bo Pelini is moving back home.

The former Nebraska head football coach has accepted the head coaching job at Youngstown State University in his native Youngstown, Ohio.

Pelini was 67-27 in his seven seasons at Nebraska, passing Tom Osborne for most victories in a coach’s first seven seasons at the school.  He was only the sixth coach in FBS history to win at least nine games in each of his first seven campaigns.  He previously served as a defensive coordinator at LSU and Oklahoma.  He also served nine years as a defensive assistant in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers.

Pelini will join his former college coach at Youngstown State.  Former Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel is now president of Youngstown State.

The Penguins have played their home football games at Stambaugh Stadium for 33 years.  The stadium holds 17,000 and is the highest point in town.  The team has won 75% of its home games at Stambaugh.  Since 2011, the team has played on a Shaw Sports Turf PowerBlade HP+ surface.

The team also trains on a full-length PowerBlade HP+ indoor field at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).

Shaw’s advanced monofilament fiber, PowerBlade HP+ combines the softness and lush appearance of natural grass with the engineered performance of modern synthetic turf. With a duo-tone monofilament fiber that reflects the appearance and resiliency of natural grass. Since there is no post-fibrillation, a field will maintain its impressive look and feel for years to come. PowerBlade HP+ was carefully engineered to combine durability and performance for year-round, multi-purpose use.

Pelini formally takes over at Yongstown State today (December 17).
