Unlike natural grass, Shaw Sports Turf needs no water, and no costly fertilizers or pesticides. It can save millions of gallons of water every year. There is no need for pollution producing maintenance equipment. And because the infill is composed of rubber, millions of tires each year are kept out of landfills. Best of all, at the end of the field’s useful life, all components can be either reused or recycled through our Shaw Green Edge Recycling Program.
Once the synthetic grass field is taken up, the infill (sand & rubber) is removed, cleaned and reused in future fields. The artificial turf can then be shipped to Shaw’s headquarters and repurposed using a variety of methods, including converting into resin pellets that are used in the manufacturing of other products like Shaw carpet backing and resilient flooring or in our Waste to Energy, Re2E facility where we generate fuel in our state-of-the-art to run manufacturing locations.
Shaw is committed to creating the most beautiful – and sustainable – flooring and synthetic turf grass surfaces in the world. Rooted in our drive to continuously improve every aspect of our business, the Shaw Green Edge guides everything we do -from maintaining the highest ethical standards to safeguarding the health and well-being of our people and our communities, to conserving energy and water and recycling raw materials, to designing cradle to cradle products that can be remanufactured over and over again.
Shaw has recycled over 320 million pounds of carpet since 2007 and opened three state-of-the-art recycling facilities—Clear Path Recycling (plastic PET bottles recycling), Evergreen (nylon 6 recycling) and Re2E (Reclaim to Energy). Today, Shaw offers hundreds of fully certified Cradle to Cradle flooring products.
